Oh Dina! is the Perfect Plush Touch to a Near Perfect Outfit!

First & Last photo credits
Model: Sam Power
Photographer: Solange Richer de Lafleche
Make-up: Guylaine Richer de Lafleche
Designer: Oh Dina!

Local designer and fellow Ryerson University Fashion Design student, Nicole McInnis, is a woman with a vision. After studying millinery, her interest in it bloomed into a full on affair. Millinery (otherwise known as hat making) is definitely a lost art and Nicole may be single-handily bringing it back to the masses. Her use of colour and texture are impeccable and only the finest materials are used, such as, Pheasant, Coque, Nagorie, Mallard & Duck feathers to name a few.

I have always been very inspired by pin up and old school Hollywood glamour. With my designs, I am driven to create intricate and delicate pieces that command attention, says Nicole. I really believe that a hair accessory finishes off an outfit and creates a polished look. {Nicole, herself, photographed below}

Being a student, or young professional, the “it” bag or latest designer shoes may not be within our reach. But at $25-$50 a pop, these “little lovelies” (as quoted by Nicole) may very well solve that problem. Whether you want to incorporate them into your everyday wardrobe, or freshen up your look for the club scene, Oh Dina! is guaranteed to have something to brighten up your day.

So where do you buy these little masterpieces?

If you’re ever in Halifax, you can stop by Lady Luck Boutique in the Hydrostone Market, 5519 Young St. Or try the Historic Properties, 1869 Upper Water Street.
For those in the Toronto area, you can snag one of her pieces on her Etsy Shop: http://www.ohdinafascinators.etsy.com/

Nicole does custom orders. All you have to do is contact her online if you want to buy one (see link below) and I suggest you do. We need to support Toronto’s budding talent. Plus, with the amount of garbage in retail, I will gladly shell out $40 of my hard-earned money for one.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=45073338644&ref=ts

I am always so impressed by budding entrepreneurs and, even more so, by those still in school. As a design student, I truly appreciate a hand-crafted piece. We need to be more critical of what we are wearing, where it came from and what it means. I, for one, have purchased an Oh Dina! and it’s the best purchase I have made in a long time. Yeah, her pieces can definitely get a wear!

PLuSH Pieces (part2)

Nowadays, you can just about Swarovski Crystal anything up!
Visit: http://www.swarovski.com/

PLuSH says, try this one of a kind Swarovski Crystal USB Key (which comes in both heart & lock shapes) whether you're rushing to print that layout, article, essay, assignment; or just backing up files. This USB is the newest addition to keychain bling!

Now these are nice! I've always favoured DJ headphones over the singles that you put in your ears but they constantly fall out. And you hesitate to share them with others, fearing the caked on wax that may stick to the device. I mean, why not just put these custom made Fashion Rocks swarovski decorated headphones on and bang out. {the crystals are pink but you may select your own colour}

But, if the singles are what your used to check these out:

Talk about the latest in office equipment. I recently watched Life in the Fab Lane with Kimora Lee Simmons, designer for KLS & Babyphat, and she was sporting these on her office desk. I thought it was unreal; but, it turns out, there is actually a mass market for items such as these...the bling bling era lives on!

Continuing with the PLuSH office trend are crystal 'diamond ring' paperweights...because having a desk that is unpresentable is unacceptable. Organized desk = Organized mind.

For those of you who are high rollers and would like to have a pair of Crystal (paperweights above) playing dice (below) on hand...I know you can't stop thinking about cee-lo, craps, yahtzee and strat-o-matic!

Ok now this is Banana's! I mean, a custom Swarovski Crystal flat iron! This has got to be the most superficial thing I have ever encountered to date!

Walking canes are making a comeback, so why not invest in some crystal, dome top, pieces?!!! My bestie & I just got matching ones ~ they up the style & extra protection factors...strut it!

Swarovski Crystal embellished microphone for you Mariah Carey Diva's

Custom crystal opera glasses aka binoculars...get yours!

Ladies & Gents...don't forget to carry your liquors in style in these one of a kind

bedazzled crystal covered flasks

Victoria Beckham Dress Collection

Victoria Beckham will be on the front cover of Russian Vogue next month. "Forties and 50s underwear played a big influence on the collection, but the inspiration is me" the former Posh Spice describes. "I have tried every one of the dresses on, lived in them, to work out what feels right. I hope the silhouette is what every woman wants to wear." Judging by Victoria's style, it will not be too surprising to see what her collection will look like i.e. sleek, form fitting and dark palettes...if the collection stays true to her image then I suspect it will be fly nonetheless!

(oh, her and hubby David Beckham will be posing in more advertisements to follow this spring!)

Found this while blogging. His vs. Hers. LOLOLOL!!!

ObaMEMORABILIA

I know, I am late on this one. It is still sinking in that history has JUST happened. Although it will still be continuing, I NEED something tangible to cherish and to give to my future grandchildren. So why not go OBAMA in-style? Here's a selection of plush memorabilia designed to fundraise for his campaign.
**Note** since the campaign is over the items are on CLEARANCE!

(From top left clockwise): DVF tote, Isaac Mizrahi tote, Narciso Rodriguez tee, Zac Posen tank, Vera Wang tee, and Tory Burch tee)

You can purchase the official Obama-RTW ;) online at http://store.barackobama.com/

Jason Wu?

And the winner is...(drum roll)... Jason Wu. His gorgeous crystal-encrusted, white, one-shouldered gown was chosen for the First Lady, Michelle Obama, for the Inauguration Ball yesterday. This business savvy 26 year-old entrepeneur from Taipei, Taiwan studied in Canada and France then settled in NYC at the Parsons School of Design. Would you believe that he started his career designing dolls for a toy company? Talk about moving on up! "I had no idea," the designer tells WWD, confessing that he only found out about the coup when Michelle appeared on television as he was watching the proceedings with friends. "I found out with everyone else - which was pretty fabulous, when you think about it." Fashion, he maintains, is a "sort of escapism, and women need beautiful dresses to lose themselves in". This is one overnight designer I will be keeping my plush lens on for.

A shot of THE dress...

I can see why this design was picked. Wu's clothing is elegant, but simple; it has a natural feel and is the perfect choice for a First Lady :)

Jason Wu Spring/Summer RTW 2009

Like it or not, look out for Jason Wu, he is just getting started.

Was Yesterday A Dream? NO, it was HISTORY!

The PRESIDENT and his better half... (Michelle in Narciso Rodriguez)

Americans you have a black president!! I'm so jealous I am seriously considering a move South of the border. After all the pride, unity and true happiness I experienced yesterday (watching the TV in the waiting area at work), I am left speechless. Here's a collection of a few photos from the Inauguration and celebrations that followed...

Michelle wearing Isabel Toledo and green Glacier Jimmy Choo shoes.

Michelle wearing Jason Wu (a 26 year-old up and coming designer!)

Michelle wearing J. Crew, nice and bright for the kids!
YES. Its true, Martin Luther's dream is becoming reality. Say it loud Plush People!

The September Issue

The September Issue (a documentary film following Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour) premiered last Friday January 16th at the Sundance Film Festival; it is directed by R.J. Cutler. For those unfamiliar with Anna Wintour, the character Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) was thought to be based on Wintour. The film features Anna and her team from January to August 2007 and highlights the creation of the September 2007 Vogue issue - the largest magazine ever published to date. The film features Karl Lagerfeld, Thakoon Panichgul and Andre Leon Talley (A.L.T.) to name a few. The four-person crew shot over 300 hours of film in order to accurately capture contradictions innate to the fashion world. “It’s a remarkable world, filled with great complexity,” Mr. Cutler says. “It’s glamorous and it’s workaday. It’s exhilarating and exhausting. You have to toil and work hard to accomplish what they accomplish but you’re living on top of the world”, as quoted from the Wall Street Journal

A revolutionary week...Have a PLuSH Martin Luther King {Jr} day & Celebrate Obama's Inauguration day...as time grows near!

I believe that it's very significant for the following 2 days to be side by side, hand in hand, day by day. Martin Luther King Jr carried on the dream and has been one of the people to bring about the most significant change, of our time, until now...

...when it becomes the job of another man, Barack Obama and his marches...(we all must march on with him)

Last minute sketch, for Michelle Obama & the kids, by Rachel Roy
I like the asymmetrical ivory gown (it would look demure against Michelle's caramel complexion) The children's dresses, shoes, hairstyle, gloves....Love Them! I think this is a winner!!! Can't wait to watch the Inauguration Ball tomorrow at 10pm

Barack Obama and, his right hand, Michelle have a lot to dance about...they have literally raised the roof and/or glass ceiling off of the bureaucratic walls of the nation.

Barack Obama's letter to his daughters
Dear Malia (bottom right) and Sasha,

I know that you’ve both had a lot of fun these last two years on the campaign trail, going to picnics and parades and state fairs, eating all sorts of junk food your mother and I probably shouldn’t have let you have. But I also know that it hasn’t always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn’t make up for all the time we’ve been apart.

I know how much I’ve missed these past two years, and today I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to take our family on this journey. When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me—about how I’d make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn’t seem so important anymore. I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn’t count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours.

In the end, girls, that’s why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation.I want all our children to go to schools worthy of their potential—schools that challenge them, inspire them, and instill in them a sense of wonder about the world around them. I want them to have the chance to go to college—even if their parents aren’t rich. And I want them to get good jobs: jobs that pay well and give them benefits like health care, jobs that let them spend time with their own kids and retire with dignity.

I want us to push the boundaries of discovery so that you’ll live to see new technologies and inventions that improve our lives and make our planet cleaner and safer. And I want us to push our own human boundaries to reach beyond the divides of race and region, gender and religion that keep us from seeing the best in each other. Sometimes we have to send our young men and women into war and other dangerous situations to protect our country—but when we do, I want to make sure that it is only for a very good reason, that we try our best to settle our differences with others peacefully, and that we do everything possible to keep our servicemen and women safe.

And I want every child to understand that the blessings these brave Americans fight for are not free—that with the great privilege of being a citizen of this nation comes great responsibility. That was the lesson your grandmother tried to teach me when I was your age, reading me the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence and telling me about the men and women who marched for equality because they believed those words, put to paper two centuries ago, should mean something. She helped me understand that America is great not because it is perfect but because it can always be made better—and that the unfinished work of perfecting our union falls to each of us. It’s a charge we pass on to our children, coming closer with each new generation to what we know America should be.

I hope both of you will take up that work, righting the wrongs that you see and working to give others the chances you’ve had. Not just because you have an obligation to give something back to this country that has given our family so much—although you do have that obligation -- but because you have an obligation to yourself. Because it is only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential. These are the things I want for you—to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world.

And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That’s why I’ve taken our family on this great adventure. I am so proud of both of you. I love you more than you can ever know. And I am grateful every day for your patience, poise, grace and humor as we prepare to start our new life together in the White House.

Love, Dad.
